Look twice save a life!

My son was killed because a driver failed to look again! There was no other factor such as a line of sight was obstructed, it’s clear driver failed to “Look twice” before turning left .

The driver has given clear account after looking left and white vehicle passed, driver looks right and it was clear then took off, then seen a glimpse of a motorcycle and then driver states heard it hit.

My son seen this coming and did the best he could have, he is traveling 50 mph ( 55 mph speed zone) on 460 heading East, Driver pulls out off of Crumbaugh Rd turning left on to 460 driver is directly in his ‘right of way” headed West

causing a head on collisions . My sons bike was drug 10 feet before driver stopped, impact my son was thrown to the left side of roadway 25 to 30 feet before he hit the ground.

An example bike traveling 50 mph standard reaction time is one second, bike traveled 73 feet per second before impact,

After speaking with Officer Lair he insured me that my son was doing nothing wrong like over taking other vehicles , speeding or any other issues that caused hIm not to try an avoid the impact.

The failure to “look twice” before the driver pulls out off a rural road or at an intersection, failure to yield to spot or fails to spot the motorcycle until it’s to late.

#startseeingus Look Twice Save A Life! campaign was created by the mother of a 26 year -old man who lost his life while driving a motorcycle in a head-0n collision with another vehicle failed to see him, by not looking twice.

Awareness and education is always needed, statics show that motorcycles continues to be at risk.

Here are some safety tips

The State Dept of Motor Vehicles remind car and truck drivers of when sharing the road with motorcyclists:

  • A motorcyclist has the right to the full use of a lane, and motorcyclist are allowed to ride two abreast in a single lane

  • A motorcyclist will often change position within a lane to get clear view of traffic, avoid hazards and be more visible to drivers.

  • You may not pass a motorcyclist in the same lane , and a motorcyclist may not share a lane with you

  • Take care when passing a motorcyclist like bicycles, motorcycles can be affected by the air pressure of passing vehicles

  • Because motorcyclist must have extra precautions when they come upon special highway surfaces, you should be aware of what a motorcyclist may do in certain situations.

  • On bridges with metal grates (often marked STEEL DECK BRIDGE), the motorcyclist may move to the center of the lane to compensate for the uneven surface. Stay well behind a motorcyclist in this situation.

  • The motorcyclist may quickly change speed or lane position to avoid loose gravel, debris, seams or grooves in the pavement, sewer or access covers, or small animals.

Before turning left, it is important to: YEILD to oncoming vehicles.

• Above picture shows in blue dots marking the area my son was traveling and his break marks

the black spot behind this vehicle is impact

my son was traveling road where he is visible to other vehicles, if driver would have looked left again before ”taken off” driver would have clearly seen him and he would be here with us today.

Remember

A motorcyclist has the right to the full use of a lane, and motorcyclist are allowed to ride two abreast in a single lane.

my son was traveling clearly visible but they can use both abreast in their single lane so please Pay Attention!!! Look twice save a life! Start seeing us!!!
