The Science behind

“ Start Seeing us, Look Twice Save a Life”.

One of the most common things heard from drivers who have just hit a pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcyclist is "I didn't see them.", or "They came out of nowhere." Obviously, neither of those things are possible.

The psychological reason behind drivers failing to “Seeing motorcyclist, pedestrians and bicyclists”, is they don’t pose a threat to the driver in the car or truck . Other psychological factors are basically distracted driving, fact is some of theses crashes should have never happened but the driver failed to Look Twice, mainly their focus was not while they were driving.

The problem is, our brains can get very micro focused and reason "okay, there are no cars" even though there might actually be a motorcycle in plain sight. I know it sounds crazy, but there are numerous brain challenges to prove this fact.

Some distractive behaviors while driving are :

Being occupied with a phone

GPS

Eating/ Drinking

Putting on makeup

Other passengers

Use of alcohol and/ or drugs these are just a few distractions while driving However , if you make a conscious effort to "retrain your brain", you're less likely to cause a crash.

Its often puzzling to me how many crashes happen dealing with motorists pulling out in front of a motorcyclist, it’s not like bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles are something new on our roadways and we have to train our minds to recognize them.

We all have the same responsibilities when we are behind the wheel.

Basically it’s just people are so comfortable behind the wheel when they need to start realizing they just don’t put themselves in danger but others who travel the roads too.

Before you get in your vehicle take a moment and clear your mind, think about not only you but think about others who are traveling on the roadway with you.

You want to make it to your destination safe and unharmed and there are others who do too.

I know that July 1st 2019 my son was hoping to make it back to work and later going home to enjoy his 19 month old son, seeing him grow up and doing all he had planned for their future as I wanted the same and I wanted to enjoy it with him, sadly because a driver failed to look twice his life was taken away from us and his future taken from him and his only son. He wasn’t the first person this happened to sadly many people have been through this , let’s work together and spread the awareness

It’s all of our responsibility for safe driving and knowing the laws of the roadways.
